Averatec’s Buddy 10-inch netbook makes appearance in the United States

The Buddy is Averatec’s second Intel Atom-based (1.6Ghz) computer and has a 10.2” LCD screen with a large 160GB hard drive. While Averatec is new in the netbook market they’re no stranger to making stylish computers and computer peripherals. The Buddy also features 1GB of DDR2 RAM, Wi-fi (802.11 b/g), 10/100Mb LAN, 4-in-1 memory card reader and a 1.3Megapixel web camera.

The netbook comes with Microsoft Windows XP Home pre-installed and weighs in at a meager 2.65 pounds.Additional software includes Norton Anti-Virus trial version, Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0 and the Wild Tangent Game Pack.

In regards to connectivity the Buddy is no slouch. Aside from the Wi-Fi and LAN connections, it also boasts three high-speed USB 2.0 ports allowing for nearly infinite expandability. The standard VGA out port means you can connect the Buddy to a digital projector or display unit to show others what you’ve been working on or to watch a legally downloaded film.

Averatec offers a limited one-year warranty and can be purchased directly from their site www.shopaveratec.com. The estimated retail price was $449.99 though at press time the sale price on the Averatec site was $479.99.
