It might sound strange that GPS and AT&T can be used to stay fit and maybe lose a few of those extra holiday pounds, but it's true. Trimble has teamed up with AT&T to offer an application that utilizes GPS-enabled AT&T handsets and transforms them into a fitness training tool.
AllSport GPS lets you track your exercising routines and activities on select GPS-Enabled AT&T handsets. The application is able to monitor time, calories burnt, speed and distance for your outdoor fitness activities like jogging, walking, bicycling and more. You can even store your workouts and check back to see what kind of progress your making with your fitness regime. You can save maps of your favorite routes, your favorite routines and even share them with others.
This means that you might help your friends improve their fitness or challenge them to beat your time, distance, etc. With the application you'll also be able to use the Trimble website which will give you access to various things including - an online library of professional and user-generated trips, recommend routes and customized trips taken by others or upload your own for them to use, topographic, street and aerial maps and guided workouts where you can accept a challenge someone else has laid out and try to beat them.
This is a unique and interesting expansion of what can be achieved with a mobile phone and GPS. It shows the power of the handset as not only a communications tool but a lifestyle shaping tool as well. Now more than ever before mobiles are becoming a central part of everyday life as they are capable of messaging, calling, and so much more including entertainment and now fitness.
AllSport GPS is available on select GPS-enabled AT&T mobile phones for a $5.99 monthly subscription. It can be purchased from the AT&T Media Mall, which is accessible from AT&T handsets and online at http://www.att.com/mediamall. New subscribers can sign up for a free seven-day trial.
