iSkoot is launching the first ever voice over IP application for Google's Android mobile phone platform via it's Google Android Market, a new downloadable app shop.
iSkoot for Skype is able to function with Wi-Fi and 3G networks as well as in areas that have neither available and still maintains the best quality calls possible.
While iSkoot for Skype is just launching on Google's Android platform it's also available for J2ME, Nokia's Symbian 60, UIQ, Palm, Windows Mobile and Blackberry platforms.
iSkoot for Skype is the result of the combined efforts of T-Mobile, HTC, Qualcomm, Motorola and others and is positioning itself to be not only the leader in mobile VOIP but also other areas. It's recent acquisition of Social.IM gives it the potential to expand into ever greater social networking arenas and boost the services it can offer immensely. Not only will you have the ability to maintain friend lists and call them, but you'll also be able to have updated information about them pushed down to your phone via the application.
The application of course utilizes your mobile carrier data networks and any data transmission may be subject to service charges from your provider. According to Jim Hudak, Vice President of Business Development, iSkoot is hoping to help everyone cut the cord and be free of their desktops computers forever.
