Uber-premium is how Navigon is describing their flagship GPS navigation product the Navigon 8100T. The feature-packed unit is retailing for $599 through online retailers, so it had better have a long list of features to attach to its price tag.
The first thing that one notices about the Navigon 8100T is the massive 4.8” widescreen display which is ideal for giving you the big picture when you’re navigating. Since it offers a panoramic 3D view, you’ll need to be careful not to stare at the screen while driving as it gives you detailed depictions of the area around you. Plus with the built in real time traffic reporting you’ll be able to quickly reroute your path so you’ll almost never need to come to a complete stop on the highway due to adverse traffic situations.
With the Navigon 8100T you don’t even need to take your hands off the wheel thanks to the advanced voice recognition system that lets you simply say the destination or address you want and the unit will find it for you.
On the hardware side of things the Navigon 8100T comes with an auto mount and docking station that also keeps the unit charged up so you don’t need to worry about it running out of energy while you’re on the move. It also features Bluetooth connectivity so you can use it as a speakerphone while you’re driving. It is also able to import your Outlook contacts via the Navigon Sync program.
The Navigon 8100T also offers several features that will help you stay on track and know exactly when and where you need to change lanes and turn. The Reality View Pro gives you a 3D photo-realistic look at where you need to go with prompts on where you need to go on that complex highway exchange. Lane Assistant Pro tells you when you should consider heading into the proper lane to make that exit or ramp at the exchange. The software is able to read directions to you because of the text-to-speech feature so you won’t even need to look at the screen.
We all know that travel isn’t just about driving and so does Navigon as they also packed in Zaget’s Ratings and Reviews on over 27,000 places across the U.S. and the Exit Guide which give you points of interest in several categories near every highway exit (food, gas, lodging, rest areas, auto service and shopping). It can also get you to the closest emergency services thanks to the DirectHelp service.
The Navigon 8100T seems to pack in all the features one would expect from a top of the line GPS navigation device and perhaps a few more to make up for the hefty price tag. If you’re a perpetual road warrior then you won’t mind spending the extra bit to get the best you can and never have navigation problems again.
It's the question on everyone's mind: will you (or have you already) picked up the new 3G iPhone?
